Psychiatry Combined ADHD & Autism Assessments

Assess ADHD and autism together

Because the two often overlap and commonly co-occur, some people prefer one combined psychiatric assessment rather than separate pathways.

Our combined ADHD and autism assessments are thorough, conversational, and designed to understand how both pathways may be relevant to your experience—not just whether you meet criteria for one or the other. Your psychiatrist will take the time to explore how these difficulties show up in daily life and how they may fit together.

Some people prefer to assess ADHD and autism together. The two often overlap and commonly co-occur, so considering both within a single assessment can provide a clearer and more useful picture than addressing each one separately.

Following the assessment, you'll receive a detailed clinical report and treatment plan—giving you and your GP a clearer understanding of the findings and a practical path forward.

What to expect

Before your appointment, you'll be asked to complete questionnaires to help your psychiatrist prepare. As with our ADHD assessments, collateral information from someone who knows you well may also be requested, either through questionnaires or by joining part of the consultation.

The assessment itself is 120 minutes via telehealth. Your psychiatrist will explore your developmental history, day-to-day functioning, attention and executive function, sensory and social experiences, mental health history, and any previous assessments or treatment.

Within 7–14 days, you'll receive a detailed clinical report outlining the findings, diagnosis (where appropriate), and treatment recommendations. This report is also sent to your referring GP.

For a full breakdown of fees and Medicare rebates, see our fees page.

When this pathway may be helpful

This pathway may be appropriate when both ADHD and autism are part of the referral question, or when you would prefer one integrated assessment because the two may overlap in your presentation.

If you are already fairly certain that the referral only needs to focus on one area, you may wish to consider our separate ADHD assessment or autism assessment pages instead.
