Psychiatry ADHD Assessments

ADHD Assessments

Psychiatrist-led ADHD assessments with Yarra Clinic in Camberwell, Melbourne, delivered via telehealth with detailed reports, treatment plans and recommendations for your GP.

Our ADHD assessments are thorough, conversational, and designed to understand your difficulties in full—not just confirm or rule out a diagnosis. Your psychiatrist will take the time to explore your experiences, how they affect your daily life, and what support might help.

Yarra Clinic is a private mental health clinic in Camberwell, Melbourne. We offer psychiatrist-led ADHD assessments by telehealth for patients in Melbourne and across Australia.

While the focus is on ADHD, the assessment considers the broader clinical picture. Other conditions are explored where relevant, so that the recommendations your GP receives reflect the full complexity of what you're experiencing.

Why see a psychiatrist for an ADHD assessment?

An ADHD assessment with a psychiatrist can help clarify whether ADHD is the right diagnosis, identify other factors that may be contributing, and provide treatment recommendations tailored to the full clinical picture.

Following your assessment, you'll receive a detailed clinical report and treatment plan for your GP. If medication is recommended, your psychiatrist can provide the authority and guidance your GP needs to begin treatment.

What to expect

Before your appointment, you'll be asked to complete a set of questionnaires. These help your psychiatrist prepare for the consultation and ensure the session time is used as effectively as possible.

The assessment itself is at least 60 minutes via telehealth. Rather than a checklist-style interview, it's a conversation—your psychiatrist will explore your symptoms, history, and the ways ADHD-related difficulties show up in your life.

Collateral information is an important part of the process. A family member or someone who knows you well may join part of the session, or complete a questionnaire beforehand, to provide additional perspective.

Within 7–14 days, you'll receive a clinical report outlining the findings, diagnosis (where appropriate), and a treatment plan. This report is also sent to your referring GP. If medication is recommended, your GP will be provided with an authority to prescribe.

If you'd like to understand the referral and booking process first, see our new patient guide. For a full breakdown of fees and Medicare rebates, see our fees page.

Already have a diagnosis?

If you've previously been diagnosed with ADHD by a psychiatrist and are happy with your current treatment—just needing a review and continuation rather than any changes—we offer a briefer assessment at a reduced fee of $990.

If your diagnosis was made by a psychologist, the full assessment applies, as a psychiatric evaluation is still required. Please mention your diagnostic history when booking so we can advise on the appropriate pathway.
