Psychiatry Autism Assessments

Autism Assessments

Psychiatrist-led autism assessments with Yarra Clinic in Camberwell, Melbourne, delivered via telehealth with detailed reports for your GP and supporting documentation where needed.

Our autism assessments are thorough, conversational, and designed to build a complete picture of how you experience the world—not just whether you meet diagnostic criteria. Your psychiatrist will take the time to understand your strengths, difficulties, and the ways autism may be shaping your daily life.

Yarra Clinic is a private mental health clinic in Camberwell, Melbourne. We offer psychiatrist-led autism assessments by telehealth for patients in Melbourne and across Australia.

While the focus is on autism, the assessment considers the broader clinical picture. Other conditions are explored where relevant, so that the recommendations your GP receives reflect the full complexity of what you're experiencing.

Why see a psychiatrist for an autism assessment?

An autism assessment with a psychiatrist can help clarify diagnosis, identify overlapping or related mental health concerns, and provide recommendations that fit the broader clinical picture.

Our reports are detailed enough to support your GP and, where relevant, can also be used for NDIS evidence requirements, workplace accommodations, university disability services, and other situations where formal documentation is needed.

What to expect

Before your appointment, you'll be asked to complete a set of questionnaires. These help your psychiatrist prepare for the consultation and ensure the session time is used as effectively as possible.

The assessment itself is at least 60 minutes via telehealth. Rather than a checklist-style interview, it's a conversation—your psychiatrist will explore your experiences, history, and the ways autism-related difficulties present in your life.

Within 7–14 days, you'll receive a detailed clinical report outlining the findings, diagnosis (where appropriate), and recommendations. This report is also sent to your referring GP.

If you'd like to understand the referral and booking process first, see our new patient guide. For a full breakdown of fees and Medicare rebates, see our fees page.
