Consultant Psychiatrist
Yarra Clinic is a specialist psychiatry and clinical psychology practice in Camberwell, Melbourne. We’re looking for an experienced consultant psychiatrist to join our team—someone who values thoroughness, takes their time with patients, and appreciates working in a well-supported, collegial environment.
Our psychiatry service is assessment-focused. Patients are referred by their GP for a comprehensive evaluation, and our psychiatrists provide a detailed report and treatment plan that guides the patient’s ongoing care. The work is considered and unhurried—we prioritise quality over volume.
The role
You would conduct thorough psychiatry assessments—typically 60 minutes—covering general mental health, ADHD, and autism. Following each assessment, you produce a comprehensive report with clear treatment recommendations for the referring GP.
Review appointments are available for patients who need follow-up, but the model is designed around standalone assessments that give GPs the confidence to manage ongoing care themselves.
Appointments are primarily via telehealth, with the option to see patients in-person at our Camberwell clinic. You set your own hours and manage your own caseload.
What we take care of
We handle the operational side so you can focus on clinical work.
Referral management
We receive and triage all referrals, liaise with GPs, and match patients to the appropriate clinician.
Scheduling & bookings
Our practice manager handles all appointment scheduling, reminders, and patient communications.
Billing & Medicare
We manage all invoicing, Medicare claims, and fee collection on your behalf.
Pre-appointment questionnaires
Patients complete structured questionnaires before their assessment, so you arrive prepared.
What we're looking for
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP)
- Current AHPRA registration as a specialist psychiatrist
- Experience conducting comprehensive psychiatry assessments across general mental health, ADHD, and/or autism
- Comfort producing detailed, GP-facing reports with clear treatment recommendations
- A preference for thorough, considered clinical work over high-volume practice
Arrangement
This is a contractor position with flexible hours. You choose your availability and we fill your diary from our referral pipeline. There is no minimum commitment—some of our psychiatrists work one day a week, others work several.
Competitive service fee split. We’re happy to discuss the details with you directly.
